Our Curriculum

preschoolEach month our curriculum will revolve around a theme, character value and fruit of the spirit. Within this framework, there will be developmentally appropriate activities that will include:  Bible stories, science and nature, arts and crafts, music & movement, language arts and development, math concepts, social studies, writing, dramatic play, cooking, outdoor activities, puppets, flannel boards, Chapel time and so much more……

When we work with preschool-aged children, our focus is primarily on the process of learning concepts not the finished product. This is when children or anyone of us for that matter learns the most.  Watching your children play/work and guiding them through the process is extremely rewarding as an educator. There are incredible teachable moments when you allow a child to think for themselves.  I remember once asking a child who was constructing with boxes what he was making and his response was, “I don’t know yet, I’m not finished.”  There will be times when there is a plan and other times when the sky is the limit.  Too often we believe that teaching children means a lecture or giving them the answers.  In our program we promote critical thinking by providing materials and activities that will allow children to experiment and to analyze their own efforts.

curriculumThe most important thing to remember throughout your child’s preschool experience is that their social and emotional growth and building relationships is key to their overall development.  We spend most of our day teaching children life’s lessons.  Teaching children to be good listeners, to be good friends, to have good manners, to be respectful and kind, to use their words and to not be hurtful.  How children interact with others and how they feel about themselves is essential in their formative years and together home and school can help them to develop the skills necessary to be a caring, happy and confident person.

curriculumOur main goal is to create a happy learning environment in which each child will feel confident and successful as well as to help them to understand the importance of being a part of a community.  A place where families, teachers and peers work together in a peaceful, loving and respectful manner.  Our focus is on guiding your child through their social/emotional, physical, language, cognitive and spiritual development.  Each child is different and “individual” learning abilities will vary.  Our curriculum provides a variety of techniques designed to appeal to each child’s interests and learning styles while preparing them for the next level of learning.  Feeling confident and secure about themselves is essential in creating a love of learning.  If your child loves coming to school and is happy then we know that we are doing our job. Our main emphasis is to make learning FUN!!!!
